In a firm rebuttal to swelling rumours about his political ambitions, the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, has made it clear that he is not eyeing the Bayelsa State governorship seat in 2028.
Addressing journalists at a world press conference commemorating the 25th anniversary of the NDDC in Asaba, Delta State, Ogbuku dismissed widespread speculation linking him to future political moves in his home state.
Instead, he expressed unwavering commitment to his current role and pledged loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election project.
“I have never told anyone I’m running for governor,” Ogbuku said unequivocally. “Right now, I have a national assignment—to serve as MD/CEO of NDDC—and my full focus is on executing that responsibility as directed by Mr. President, to the benefit of the Niger Delta people.”
Turning attention to 2027, Ogbuku made it clear where his political interest lies: “If there is any election I care about, it’s the President’s re-election.
If the President doesn’t win, who are we winning elections for? Mr. President’s success is the foundation for anything else.”
Ogbuku also had words for supporters and political backers, some of whom have reportedly erected billboards urging him to contest. “I appreciate the goodwill, but I ask them to redirect that energy.

Let’s use those billboards and campaign voices to support President Tinubu instead,” he urged.
The NDDC boss emphasized that distraction by political speculation serves no one, especially in a region still facing developmental challenges.
His remarks come amid renewed political jostling in the Niger Delta ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Ogbuku’s strong stance may quell some of the growing talk in political circles, but it also signals a strategic alignment within the ruling party toward consolidating support for Tinubu’s administration ahead of the 2027 presidential polls.
