Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has urged policemen and officers in the state to henceforth defend themselves against members of Indigenous People of Biafra.
Uzodinma said this at the Imo Police Command headquarters during an visit of the Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu, to the state to assess the level of damage done to the police formation by gunmen suspected to be IPOB members on Monday.
According to the governor, “If you can’t attack them, you can at least use your rifles to defend yourselves. Any attack on police formation is an insult to us as a government. It is also an attack on the integrity of the government. We must take charge, take control and ensure discipline.”
The IGP had on Monday accused IPOB’s Eastern Security Network of being behind attacks on the Imo State Police Command headquarters and the Owerri Correctional Prison, which resulted in the release of over 1,800 inmates and the razing of several vehicles and state assets.
