The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, Aboki Danjuma, has reassured residents of Orsu Local Government Area of their safety and called on those who fled due to past insecurity to return home.
Danjuma gave this assurance on Tuesday while leading a tactical team on a clearance operation across Orsu.
The visit was part of a broader peace-building effort aimed at restoring confidence in the once-volatile region.
Orsu LGA was previously a hotbed of violent activities linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
Between 2020 and 2022, clashes between security forces and separatist fighters led to the loss of lives and the mass displacement of residents.
However, with intensified military and security operations, calm is gradually returning, and displaced persons are beginning to move back home.
During his visit, the CP toured key areas, including Eke Ututu Market, Ihiteukwa, Okwu Amaraihe, Awo-Idemili, Ihitenansa, and Amaruru.
He engaged with youth leaders, community stakeholders, and security personnel to reinforce the message of peace and security.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, highlighted that the Imo State Command, in collaboration with the military, Department of State Services (DSS), and local vigilante groups, has made significant progress in dismantling criminal networks in Orsu.
Security operatives have reportedly neutralized several criminal threats, recovered improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and seized weapons from dislodged IPOB/ESN camps.
“At the Orsu LGA Headquarters, the Commissioner met with key stakeholders, including the Chief Security Officer of Orsu, Hon. Emmanuel Ike, to discuss intelligence-sharing and rapid response strategies aimed at sustaining peace,” the statement read.
The CP was accompanied by Orsu LGA Chairman, Friday Ibekaeme, and the House of Assembly member representing Orsu, Uche Agabige, as he assessed security efforts in the region.

Danjuma reaffirmed the police command’s commitment to ensuring lasting peace in Orsu, promising increased patrols and proactive intelligence gathering.
He urged residents to report suspicious activities and encouraged youths to work with security agencies to prevent the resurgence of criminal elements.
With the renewed security measures and government-backed peace initiatives, authorities hope that Orsu will fully regain stability and allow its residents to rebuild their lives without fear.
