The Imo State Police Command has taken swift action to address allegations of corruption within its ranks, following the viral circulation of a video showing a police officer collecting money from commercial bus drivers.
The Commissioner of Police (CP) for Imo State, Aboki Danjuma, has ordered the immediate arrest of the officer involved, as well as his entire team, for their role in the extortion.
This development was confirmed in a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, on Sunday.
Okoye disclosed the CP’s decision to take firm action against any officers found involved in corrupt practices, reiterating the command’s zero tolerance for such misconduct.
The viral video, which lasted only 15 seconds, showed the officer engaging in the illegal collection of money from bus drivers operating along the road. In response, Okoye assured the public that the officers would be held accountable.
He stated, “I will personally identify these officers and share their details here to show that the command has zero tolerance for extortion.”
Furthermore, CP Danjuma has directed the command’s Complaint Response Unit and Provost Department to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure the implicated officers face the full consequences of their actions.
“Disciplinary actions will be taken against them to serve as a warning to others,” Okoye added in his statement.
The swift response by the Imo State Police Command underscores its commitment to restoring public trust and ensuring that officers uphold the principles of law enforcement with integrity.
This move is seen as a strong message to deter similar incidents of corruption within the force.
