INEC Denies Fixing May 27 Date for Voter Registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday, May 4, clarified that it has not fixed any date for the resumption of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), Transfer, or Replacement of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

In a statement on its official X handle, signed by Rotimi Oyekanmi, Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, the Commission described as false a widely circulated message claiming that the CVR and related services would resume on May 27, 2025.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) wishes to inform the general public that it has not yet announced any date for the resumption of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), Transfer and Replacement of lost Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs),” the statement read.

The Commission urged Nigerians to disregard the anonymous announcement, stressing that any official information would be duly communicated through appropriate channels.

“The Commission therefore urges the public to disregard the fake, anonymous statement making the rounds, claiming that the CVR and other associated services will resume on 27th May 2025,” Oyekanmi stated.

He assured the public that once plans are finalised, INEC will share the details widely.

“In line with its tradition, the Commission will publicly announce the date for the resumption of the CVR at the appropriate time, the full details of which will also be shared via our official social media platforms,” he added.

The clarification comes amid growing public interest in the 2027 general election, with many Nigerians seeking to register, update, or replace their voter cards.
