The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 72,274 Nigerians completed their voter registration in person within the first week of the physical exercise.
The Commission revealed this in a statement signed by its National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, on Tuesday 2nd September.
According to INEC, the figure covers the first five days of the in-person phase, which started on Monday 25th August and ended on Friday 29th August.
Breaking down the numbers, INEC said 35,622 males (49.29 percent) and 36,652 females (50.71 percent) took part in the registration.
Young people between 18 and 34 years accounted for 54,718 (75.71 percent) of the total, while students made up 30,953 (42.83 percent).

While in-person registration is ongoing at the Commission’s 811 state and local government offices nationwide, INEC reminded citizens that online pre-registration must also be completed physically at designated centres to be valid.
The electoral body disclosed that since the start of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) on 18th August, more than 2.6 million Nigerians have already pre-registered online. Of this number, 1,218,482 (48.12 percent) are male, while 1,313,580 (51.88 percent) are female.
INEC added that young people continued to dominate participation, with 1,602,484 (63.29 percent) aged between 18 and 34, and 647,528 (25.57 percent) being students.
Olumekun noted that detailed breakdowns of registrations by gender, age, occupation, and disability status have been uploaded to the Commission’s website for public access.
He also commended civic groups and citizens for their enthusiasm in driving participation.
