Independent National Electoral Commission, on Wednesday night, postponed the governorship and state House of Assembly elections earlier scheduled for Saturday, March 11.
It was learnt that the elections have now been shifted by one week to March 18, 2023.
Reliable sources at INEC said that the postponement arose from the inability of the commission to commence the re-configuration of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines used for the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections, to enable their use for the state elections.
INEC management, it was also learnt is currently holding a meeting, where either March 18 or March 25 is being considered for the elections.
Majority of the commission’s management however voted for March 18 as the new date for the polls.
A state Resident Electoral Commissioner, who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the electoral body’s decision.
