The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, will on Tuesday, October 6, hold a World Press Conference and National Stakeholders’ Meeting to mark 100 days to the 2027 General Election.
The event, scheduled to take place in Abuja, is expected to provide an update on the commission’s preparations for the elections, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and measures aimed at safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, Adedayo Oketola, the commission said the engagement would also provide an opportunity to interact with major stakeholders ahead of the polls.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will hold a World Press Conference and National Stakeholders’ Meeting on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, to mark 100 days to the 2027 General Election,” the statement said.
According to the commission, its Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, will address the gathering alongside other key stakeholders involved in the electoral process.
INEC said the meeting was designed to reinforce its commitment to transparency, public communication and collaboration with stakeholders.
“The national stakeholders’ meeting underlines the Commission’s commitment to absolute transparency, proactive public communication, and collaborative engagement with key actors in the electoral ecosystem,” it said.

Expected participants include political party leaders, security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, ICCES, members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, civil society organisations, observer groups, disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives.
The meeting comes as preparations for the 2027 elections enter a critical stage, with the presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for February 20, 2027, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are fixed for March 6, 2027.
INEC has previously released a timetable outlining activities leading to the elections, including party primaries, candidate nominations and other pre-election processes.
Amupitan, who assumed office as INEC chairman in October 2025, has reiterated the commission’s mandate to conduct free, fair, credible, transparent and inclusive elections.
The October 6 engagement will therefore bring together political parties, security agencies, civil society groups, the media and other stakeholders as the country moves closer to the 2027 polls.
The event is scheduled to hold at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja from 10 a.m., with invited participants expected to be seated at the venue by the same time.
INEC said attendance would be strictly by invitation, while accredited media representatives and invited guests would be required to present their invitation cards or accreditation badges at security checkpoints.
The commission also said the event would be broadcast live on major national television networks and streamed through its official social media platforms.
