Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, has reiterated the need for the establishment of state police, saying that current circumstances underscored its importance.
Akeredolu called for a multi-level policing system, saying it is the best way to take the country out of the security challenge it is facing in recent times.
He also emphasised that the issue of state police had become more necessary than ever.
The governor stated this at the state Christian service in commemoration of the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration, held at St. Benedict Military Catholic Church, Owena Cantonment of the Nigerian Army, Ondo Road, Akure, on Sunday.
He also said there was a need for more provision of modern equipment for the Nigerian military to help in their fight against insurgents and other criminalities in the country.
“Better ammunition and welfare of the security agencies must continue to be at the forefront, to better encourage and support the officers in their fight against criminalities,” he said.
Commending the support and commitment of the military in securing the state and confronting kidnappers and other criminal elements undermining the peace of the state, the governor said the Nigerian military counter-terrorism efforts aimed at ridding the country and the state of criminal elements was laudable.
Brigade Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Zakari Abubakar, in his remarks, appreciated the commitment of Akeredolu to the brigade, soldiers, widows, and dependents of the fallen heroes.
He said the command recognised and valued the continued supports and encouragement of the governor, urging him to continue supporting the army.
