The Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission (ESSC), Amadin Enabulele, has approved the suspension of Bendel Insurance head coach, Greg Ikhenoba, following the club’s poor run in the ongoing Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
The decision, announced on Monday, came after Insurance’s 1-0 home defeat to Nasarawa United in a Matchday 7 encounter at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.
Bendel Insurance currently sit 16th on the NPFL table with just six points from seven matches — a performance the ESSC described as below expectations.
In the interim, Coach Baldwin Bazuaye, a former international and member of the club’s technical board, has been directed to take charge of the team.

According to ESSC Director of Media and Communication, Kehinde Osagiede, Bazuaye will oversee the team’s training sessions beginning Tuesday as part of efforts to revive the team’s form.
“Coach Ikhenoba has been suspended and Bazuaye has taken over. He is a board member with a good knowledge of the team. The task before him is to move the team higher up the league table,” Osagiede stated.
He added that the management remains committed to restoring Bendel Insurance’s competitive edge and improving its standing in the NPFL.
