Iran says ships moving through the Strait of Hormuz must follow its security rules and coordinate with designated authorities, while indicating a relaxation of earlier transit limits.
In a statement issued late Tuesday, the 24th of March, 2026, by its mission to the United Nations, the Islamic Republic said vessels that are not considered hostile and are not aiding military action against Tehran would be allowed to pass.
The Strait of Hormuz has become a key flashpoint in the ongoing US-Israeli war involving Iran.
Iran has also launched repeated attacks on vessels in the waterway, disrupting movement along a major route for global oil and gas supplies.

The channel, which lies between Iran and Oman, serves as the only maritime link between the Gulf and the world’s oceans.
It remains one of the most critical shipping corridors worldwide, with about 20 per cent of global oil supply typically passing through it.
