Iran Executes Man Convicted of Spying for Israel

Iranian authorities have executed a man found guilty of passing sensitive information to Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency, the judiciary confirmed on Wednesday.

The judiciary’s news outlet, Mizan Online, reported that Babak Shahbazi was hanged in the morning after his death sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court.

He was convicted of the charges of “corruption on earth” and “waging war against God,” both considered capital offences under Iranian law.

Details about Shahbazi’s arrest remain unclear, but Mizan said he had worked on the design and installation of industrial cooling systems for companies linked to Iran’s military, security, and telecommunications sectors.

His position reportedly gave him access to sensitive facilities, which he allegedly exploited to supply information to Mossad in return for money and the promise of foreign residency.

The execution comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and Israel, following months of conflict that began with a war in June.

Tehran has vowed to act decisively against those accused of aiding its regional rival.

In August, authorities executed Roozbeh Vadi, an employee at a subsidiary of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organisation, who was convicted of providing intelligence on nuclear scientists and facilities to Israel.

A month earlier, the intelligence ministry announced the arrest of 20 alleged Mossad operatives and collaborators across Tehran and several provinces.

Iran is one of the world’s leading users of capital punishment, second only to China, according to rights groups such as Amnesty International.
