An Israeli air strike on Friday killed one person in southern Lebanon’s Nabatiyeh district, the Lebanese health ministry said, marking the latest in a series of attacks despite a ceasefire agreed in November.
The victim, identified as Mohammad Shahadeh, ran a local news website. Colleagues and friends posted tributes on social media, while Hezbollah circulated an obituary describing him as a “martyr on the road to Jerusalem” — a phrase it uses for members killed in fighting with Israel.
The strike came a day after Israeli attacks in the eastern Bekaa Valley killed seven people, including two senior members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) — Central Committee member Mohammad Khalil Wishah and field commander Mufid Hassan Hussein. The PFLP condemned the killings as a “treacherous Zionist assassination crime” on the road between Syria and Lebanon.

The Israeli military confirmed Friday’s operation, alleging that Wishah had led the PFLP’s “military-security department in Syria” since the assassination of his predecessor in a Beirut air strike last September. It further claimed he had been working to advance operations against Israeli targets.
Despite the truce, Israel has continued to strike Lebanese territory and has warned that attacks will persist until Hezbollah is disarmed. In response, the Lebanese government this week set a year-end target for the group’s disarmament, instructing the army to submit a detailed plan by the end of August.
