Jamaican Reggae Legend Jimmy Cliff Dies at 81

Jamaican music and film icon Jimmy Cliff has died at the age of 81. His wife, Latifa Chambers, confirmed that he passed away on 24 November 2025 following a seizure and subsequent pneumonia.

Born James Chambers on 30 July 1944 in St. James, Jamaica, Jimmy Cliff rose from humble beginnings to become one of reggae’s most celebrated voices.

His songs, including You Can Get It If You Really Want, I Can See Clearly Now, and Wonderful World, Beautiful People, resonated across the globe and brought Jamaican music to international audiences.

Cliff also made a mark in cinema, starring in the 1972 cult classic The Harder They Come, a film that helped introduce reggae to the world and solidify Jamaica’s place in film history.

Over his lifetime, he was honoured with the Jamaican Order of Merit, recognizing his immense contributions to culture and music.
