JAMB Unveils 2026 UTME Playbook, Warns Candidates on Costly Registration Errors

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has issued comprehensive guidelines for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination registration, alongside a list of common challenges candidates may face during the process.

The guidelines, released on Sunday via the board’s official X handle, are aimed at helping prospective candidates prepare ahead of the registration window.

According to JAMB, candidates must ensure that all personal details—including National Identification Number (NIN), email address and A-Level results—are accurate before generating a profile code. Applicants are required to send their 11-digit NIN to either 55019 or 66019 in the correct format.

The board emphasised that once generated, a profile code cannot be changed, as biodata is automatically pulled from the National Identity Management Commission database. Candidates are expected to proceed to any JAMB office or accredited CBT centre to complete their registration.

JAMB advised candidates to purchase their e-PINs only from authorised vendors such as banks, approved online platforms or designated agents at CBT centres. It also urged candidates to carefully review the registration template and verify all information before final submission.

The board warned that incorrect or inconsistent data could complicate the registration process and urged candidates to resolve any discrepancies—such as name, date of birth, gender or state of origin—with NIMC ahead of time and ensure the updates reflect on their profiles.

JAMB further noted that GSM numbers and email addresses serve as unique identifiers and cannot be changed or shared. Candidates experiencing biometric difficulties during registration were advised to visit the nearest JAMB office, as no CBT centre is authorised to force biometric capture.

The board also stressed the use of dual screens at registration centres to enable candidates to verify their passport photographs and biometrics in real time.

Highlighting common issues in profile code generation, JAMB listed errors such as incorrectly formatted NIN texts, phone numbers already linked to existing profiles and temporary inability to verify NIN details. Candidates encountering these issues were advised to retry after some time or use a new phone number where necessary.

The sale of forms for the 2026 UTME will run from Friday, January 31, 2026, to Saturday, March 8, 2026.
