Former President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed deep appreciation after receiving the 2024 Sunhak Peace Prize, dedicating the international honour to Nigerians and Africans committed to peace and development across the continent.
In a statement shared on his official X handle on Friday, April 11, Jonathan described the award ceremony held in Seoul, South Korea, as a moment of pride not just for him but for all peace-loving citizens.
“Hugely grateful for the Founder’s Sunhak Peace Prize that was presented to me today at an official ceremony in Seoul, South Korea,” Jonathan wrote.
“This honour belongs to every Nigerian who believes in the possibility of peace and to every African working for the progress and advancement of our continent.”
He also extended congratulations to other recipients of the prestigious award and acknowledged the support of his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan.

“I congratulate other awardees and thank the co-founder of the Universal Peace Federation, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, the Sunhak Peace Prize Foundation, as well as my wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, for her love and support,” the former Nigerian leader added.
The Sunhak Peace Prize, established to recognize individuals and organizations making significant contributions to peace, development, and human rights, has previously been awarded to global changemakers including heads of state, scientists, and humanitarian activists.
Jonathan, known for his statesmanship and peaceful handover of power in 2015, continues to play active roles in peacebuilding efforts across Africa through diplomatic engagements and international mediation.
