“We are in prison in our own country, within one year the Kaduna Archdiocese have buried three priests, and our priest for over two and half years is still in the hand of the same bandit,” the Archbishop of Kaduna Archdiocese, Most Reverend Matthew Ndagoso, cried on Thursday during the burial of Reverend Father Vitus Borogo.
Borogo, the latest priest to be murdered in Kaduna, was killed last Saturday evening on his farm at Prison Farm, Kujama, along Kaduna-Kachia Road after bandits raided the farm.
Until his death, he was the Chaplain of the Catholic Community, Kaduna State Polytechnic, and the Chairman of the Nigerian Catholic Diocesan Priests Association (NCDPA), Kaduna Chapter.
Over 700 Catholic priests, during Borogo Burial held a peaceful protest, decrying the raging insecurity in the country.
At the burial held at the Queen of Apostle Catholic Church, Ndagoso, regrated the level of insecurity in the country, blaming the government for the situation.
Noting that Nigeria has become a failed state, he insisted something “is basically wrong with the country.”
He told journalists, “We are in prison in our own country. Within one year the Archdiocese has buried three priests, and one of our priests for over two and half years is still in the hand of bandits.
“Last three weeks, I buried a priest without his body. It is terrible to say a burial mass is conducted without a body. All the priests killed by bandits were very young and courageous priests. Father Borogo is the only one that is up to 50”.
