Kano Deputy Gov Should Resign For Refusing APC Defection — Commissioner

The Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, has advised Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo to resign after he opted not to join Governor Abba Yusuf in defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking to journalists in Kano on Thursday, January 29, Waiya stressed that loyalty and mutual trust are central to effective governance, arguing that participation in executive activities is untenable without such confidence.

“This is his personal decision, but there is no way someone who is no longer with you should be part of the routine council meeting,” Waiya said.

“Who knows with whom he might share important government secrets? In government, things are done based on trust, and you can’t trust someone who is not with you.”

He added that stepping down would be the most dignified course of action for the deputy governor.

“If I were him, I would humbly resign,” he stated.

The remarks come in the wake of Governor Yusuf’s recent defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the APC.

Waiya described as beneficial for Kano, pointing out that closer alignment with the Federal Government could bring more development initiatives and interventions to the state.

He further assured citizens that the administration is taking steps to address the ongoing emirate dispute, stressing dialogue, adherence to the rule of law, and the preservation of peace.

“The administration remains focused on ensuring that political differences do not disrupt governance or undermine the collective interests of the people of Kano State,” Waiya concluded.
