The Kano State Government has commenced the distribution of food items to residents under its 2026/1447AH Ramadan Feeding Programme, following the approval of a high-powered committee by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to oversee the exercise.
This was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa.
According to the statement, food distribution began on Thursday, February 19, 2026, across designated centres in the state.
“The Governor announced that food distribution commenced since Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 115 feeding centres across the eight Kano metropolitan LGAs,” the statement read.
The government said the programme is designed to support vulnerable residents and ease the burden of fasting during the holy month of Ramadan.
“He explained that the programme is aimed at supporting the less privileged and easing the burden of fasting during the holy month of Ramadan,” the statement added.
Yusuf charged members of the committee to discharge their responsibilities with integrity, dedication and accountability to ensure the success of the initiative.
“Governor Yusuf urged members of the committee to carry out their duties with dedication, transparency and fear of God to ensure the success of the programme,” the statement said.
The committee is chaired by the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Ahmed Tijani Auwalu. Other members include the Commissioner for Local Government, Muhammad Tajo Othman; the Commissioner of Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf; and the Commissioner of Environment, Dr Dahiru Hashim.
Also on the committee are the Chairman of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Sheikh Ibrahim Shehu Maihula; Special Adviser on Religious Affairs II, Aliyu Muhammad Bichi; Special Adviser on Tsangaya, Gwani Musa Hamza Falaki; Special Adviser on Humanitarian Affairs, Abdulkadir Auwalu (Alhajiji); and Special Adviser on Food Security, Aisha Muhammad Idris.

Others are the State Accountant General, Jamila Magaji Abdullahi; Director General of the Hisbah Board, Abba Saidu Sufi; Director General, Media and Publicity, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa; Director General, Protocol, Abdullahi Ibrahim Rogo; and Director General, Research and Documentation, Nana Asma’u Jibril.
The statement noted that local government chairmen from the metropolitan councils are members of the committee, alongside other senior government officials.
Akibu Isa Murtala, Special Adviser on Administration, will serve as Secretary, while Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, Permanent Secretary/AGS, SSG’s Office, will serve as Co-Secretary.
Reaffirming the administration’s commitment, the statement said the Ramadan Feeding Programme remains a key social intervention initiative aimed at promoting unity and providing relief to vulnerable residents across the state.
