Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Yusuf, is set to formally rejoin the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, January 26, after resigning from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) last Friday.
The governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, confirmed the move in a statement issued on Sunday, January 25, explaining that Yusuf’s decision was driven by considerations of governance, national cohesion, and state development.
Yusuf, who originally joined the APC in 2014, previously won the party’s primary for the Kano Central Senatorial seat but later ceded the ticket to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The statement said he would now “formally register as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano on Monday, January 26, 2026.”
The governor expressed confidence that returning to the APC would strengthen collaboration with the Federal Government and accelerate progress across the state.

“Rejoining the APC will further strengthen cooperation with the Federal Government, accelerate infrastructural development, enhance security coordination and improve service delivery across Kano State,” the statement said.
It also noted that the move is intended to promote political stability and unity within the state.
Yusuf is expected to register alongside 22 members of the Kano State House of Assembly, eight House of Representatives members, and all 44 local government chairmen.
He will also officially launch the APC electronic registration exercise in Kano on the same day.
According to party sources, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda instructed stakeholders loyal to the governor to coordinate with the party’s Organising Secretary to finalise the registration arrangements for Yusuf and his supporters.
This step marks a major realignment in Kano politics as the state prepares for upcoming elections, reinforcing the APC’s presence and influence in the region.
