Kano State Government has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of former governor and ex-APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, over remarks it says could incite insecurity in the state.
The demand followed a review at the 34th State Executive Council meeting on November 28, 2025, where officials flagged Ganduje’s recent comments suggesting the recruitment of 12,000 youths into a religious-police outfit called “Khairul Nas.”
The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau I. Jibrin, was also cited for similar statements.
Describing the remarks as “reckless, inciting, and capable of undermining the security efforts of the Kano State Government and the President Tinubu-led administration,” the council warned that they could worsen the state’s already fragile security situation.

The timing of the comments heightened concern. Less than 48 hours after they were made, reports emerged of suspected bandits infiltrating border communities, an incident officials said raised questions about a possible link to the statements.
Kano State has urged security agencies to investigate and ensure Ganduje’s arrest, accusing him of attempting to form an illegal militia capable of destabilizing the state.
The government stressed that protecting residents and maintaining law and order remains its top priority.
