Katsina LG Polls: APC Wins All 34 chairmanship, 361 councillorship positions

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded a clean sweep in the Katsina State local government elections, securing all 34 chairmanship and 361 councillorship positions.

This was confirmed by the Chairman of the Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission (KSIEC), Lawal Alhassan, during the official announcement of results at the commission’s headquarters on Sunday.

Alhassan attributed the delay in releasing the final results to late submissions from some local government areas.

The elections, which took place on February 15, 2025, saw only 24 out of the 34 local governments submitting their results by midnight.

“As of midnight yesterday, only 24 local government areas had submitted their results to the commission,” Alhassan disclosed.

The remaining 10 local government areas—Batsari, Charanchi, Dandume, Daura, Funtua, Kankia, Katsina, Mani, Dutsinma, and Sabuwa—submitted their results the following day, allowing the commission to complete collation and declare the final outcome.

Five political parties contested the elections, namely Accord (A), African Action Congress (AAC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC), and Boot Party (BP).

However, the APC emerged dominant across all constituencies, winning by significant margins.

In response to the results, the Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Katsina State, Salima Boyi, acknowledged the APC’s victory and stressed the importance of unity and democratic growth.

“As we reflect on the recently concluded elections, I recognize the efforts of all candidates and the electorate. While differences exist, we accept the results in the interest of democracy and the development of Katsina State,” Boyi stated during a press briefing on Sunday.

He commended the Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission for overseeing a largely peaceful electoral process and encouraged all candidates to continue working for the progress of the state.

Katsina State Governor, Mallam Dikko Umar Radda, extended his congratulations to the newly elected chairmen and councillors.

With the results now finalized, attention turns to the incoming local government officials as they prepare to take on their responsibilities in leading their communities forward.
