The Kebbi State Government has scheduled the Argungu International Fishing Festival to hold from Tuesday, February 11, to Friday, February 14, 2026, reaffirming the state’s commitment to preserving its cultural heritage and boosting tourism.
The dates were announced on Friday, January 16, 2026, after a joint meeting of the State Festival Main Committee and the Argungu Emirate Local Organising Committee in Birnin Kebbi, where key arrangements for the event were reviewed.
Held annually in Argungu town, the festival draws large crowds of fishermen, cultural performers, tourists and dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond.
The highlight of the celebration is the traditional fishing contest, in which participants compete using only locally approved fishing tools.
The four-day event also features traditional music and dance performances, wrestling bouts, boat regattas and other cultural activities that showcase the history and customs of the Argungu people.
