Kenechukwu Azuike Shines at Cowbellpedia 2025, Completes Rubik’s Cube in 23 Seconds

Nigerian teenager Kenechukwu Azuike has secured national recognition after winning the senior category of the 2025 Cowbellpedia competition and astonishing audiences by solving a Rubik’s Cube in 23 seconds, a time he modestly described as “one of my slower ones.”

Azuike, a student of St. Gregory’s College, Lagos, topped a pool of more than 5,000 students from secondary schools nationwide who began this year’s contest with a computer-based qualifying test.

The 2025 edition, held under the theme “The Mega Minds”, spanned 14 weeks and featured rigorous rounds designed to test mathematics knowledge, logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills.

From the initial mass qualifiers, participants were narrowed down through quarterfinal and semifinal stages before eight finalists advanced to the grand finale.

The concluding contest was split into four rounds, 60 Seconds of Fame, Zone of Power, Cowbellpedia Bank, and the decisive Dignitary Shots.

Azuike outperformed his peers in the final round to secure the top prize.

His victory earned him ₦5 million, an all-expense-paid educational trip to Kenya, a one-year supply of Cowbell products, and ICT equipment including a laptop and projector for his school.

Runners-up in the senior category, as well as winners in the junior category, also received cash rewards, while parents and teachers of the champions were honoured with gifts from the organisers, Promasidor Nigeria Limited.

While the Cowbellpedia crown secured his place among Nigeria’s brightest young minds, Azuike’s off-stage skill with the Rubik’s Cube has equally caught attention.

In a demonstration following his win, he completed the 3×3 cube in 23 seconds, a time already impressive by international standards, though he admitted it was not close to his personal best.

The Rubik’s Cube, invented in 1974, has become a global benchmark for problem-solving and speedcubing competitions, with world champions often recording solves under 10 seconds.

Azuike’s display has now drawn admiration from Nigeria’s budding speedcubing community, with many seeing his ability as a sign of untapped potential in the country’s STEM and puzzle-solving fields.

The Cowbellpedia initiative, which has run for over a decade, continues to identify and celebrate outstanding secondary school students across Nigeria, combining academic excellence with innovation and creativity.

Azuike’s win, paired with his speedcubing feat, is being hailed as an inspiration to young learners striving to make their mark in mathematics and beyond.
