No fewer than four Nigerian police intelligence officers have been killed at Akai Effa, a suburb in Calabar, Cross Rivers State.
It was learnt that many residents of the area deserted their homes Thursday morning after four bodies of the slain policemen were discovered.
According to a source, the police team, acting on intelligence was said to have gone to the area to accost some hoodlums suspected to be kidnappers but were gunned down by the alleged criminals.
Noting that sporadic gunshots were heard between 12.00 and 1.00 am early Thursday morning, the source said that the hoodlums appeared to have laid an ambush against the policemen, after somebody might have informed them about the coming of the police intelligence team.
