Kogi Govt Reaffirms Commitment To Malaria Elimination

The Kogi State Government has reiterated its commitment to creating an enabling environment to eliminate malaria across the state.

The State Commissioner for Health, Abdulazees Adeiza, gave the assurance on Friday during a media parley held to mark the 2026 World Malaria Day.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Maji Enok, the commissioner said the government remains committed to demonstrating the political will required to combat the disease.

“The state is ever ready to support efforts aimed at ending malaria,” he said, noting that the current administration operates an open-door policy to ensure the success of elimination programmes across the three senatorial districts.

He also commended the media for its role in raising awareness and educating the public on preventive and treatment measures.

Adeiza added that the state had fulfilled its obligations by providing counterpart funding to donor agencies supporting malaria interventions.

In his remarks, the Director of the Kogi Malaria Elimination Programme, Stephen Ake, disclosed that free testing, treatment, and distribution of malaria commodities were ongoing across all 239 wards in the state.

He called for increased financial support from partners to sustain the initiative, adding that the 2026 strategy would focus on training and recruiting health personnel, alongside expanded awareness campaigns.

Also speaking, the State Team Leader of Famkris Healthcare Initiative, Salamatu Yahaya, said the intervention covers both urban and rural communities.

She urged residents, particularly vulnerable groups, to take advantage of the ongoing malaria service delivery programme aimed at reducing the disease burden in the state.
