‘Kwankwasiyya Intact’, Gov Yusuf Denies Rift With Kwankwaso

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has shut down rumours suggesting a falling-out between him and his mentor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, describing such claims as baseless attempts to divide them.

Speaking in Madobi on Tuesday, October 21, during an event to celebrate Kwankwaso’s 69th birthday, Yusuf reaffirmed his commitment to the former governor and the Kwankwasiyya political movement.

“Those within and outside trying to create a quarrel between me and our leader, Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, will not succeed.

“We will continue to follow the legacy and principles of the Kwankwasiyya movement because Kwankwaso is a God-given leader,” Yusuf said.

He praised Kwankwaso’s visionary leadership and prayed for his continued strength and long life, noting that his influence remains central to Kano’s progress.

The governor’s remarks come after months of speculation that tensions were brewing between both leaders.

The rumours followed the rise of a group known as Abba Tsaya da Kafarka (Abba Stand on Your Feet), reportedly led by former Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Baffa Bichi, and ex-Commissioner for Transport, Alhaji Salisu Digol.

The group was said to be calling for greater autonomy for Yusuf’s government, sparking talk of a quiet power struggle within the New Nigeria People’s Party.

But Yusuf’s comments appear to have settled the issue. By publicly restating his loyalty, the governor has reaffirmed his alignment with Kwankwaso’s ideology and the unity that helped their party secure power in Kano.
