The Kwankwasiyya Movement has urged the Supreme Court to deliver a swift ruling on the African Democratic Congress leadership dispute, expressing concern that continued delays could prevent the party from effectively participating in upcoming elections.
Through a statement released on Friday, April 24, by spokesperson Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed, the movement acknowledged its trust in the apex court’s independence while stressing the time-critical nature of the case.
“The Kwankwasiyya Movement wishes to address members of the African Democratic Congress, our supporters, and all Nigerians regarding the ongoing proceedings before the Supreme Court of Nigeria,” the statement began.
“While we remain confident in the integrity, independence and sense of responsibility of the Supreme Court, we consider it necessary to respectfully highlight the urgency surrounding this matter.”
The movement highlighted the practical constraints facing the party due to the unresolved leadership question.
“As it stands, the current situation has placed our party in a race against time,” according to the statement.
“The absence of a clear and final determination inevitably constrains the ability of the party to fully organise, mobilise and participate effectively within the democratic space.”
Mohammed emphasised that electoral processes operate within fixed deadlines that cannot be extended, making timely resolution essential.
The group asked the Supreme Court to weigh both the legal substance of the case and its implications for democratic participation.
“It is our hope that the Supreme Court will consider not only the legal merits of the case but also the urgency of the issues involved,” Mohammed stated.

The movement referenced the Supreme Court’s track record of recognising that effective justice requires both fairness and promptness, particularly in cases affecting democratic processes.
“The Court has demonstrated that justice, to be truly meaningful, must not only be fair but also timely, particularly in matters with direct implications for democratic participation and national stability,” the statement noted.
Expressing optimism about the outcome, the Kwankwasiyya Movement said it trusts the court will protect both judicial credibility and Nigeria’s multiparty system.
“We are confident that the Supreme Court, in exercising its constitutional mandate, will act in a manner that preserves both the integrity of the judiciary and the vitality of Nigeria’s multiparty democracy,” it declared.
The group also counseled patience among its followers while legal proceedings continue.
“To our members and supporters, we urge patience, unity and continued commitment to lawful and democratic engagement.
“This moment calls for resolve and confidence in the institutions that underpin our democracy,” the statement advised.
The movement concluded by reaffirming its expectation of a just and timely resolution.
“The Kwankwasiyya Movement remains assured that justice will prevail, timely, fairly and in the best interest of Nigeria,” it said.
The ADC has been unable to function normally due to INEC’s withdrawal of recognition from both rival leadership groups, leaving the party in limbo as the 2027 election cycle approaches.
