Kwankwaso: Education Outlasts Every Leader

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former Governor of Kano State, leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, has said education remains the most enduring legacy any leader can leave for society.

He spoke on December 25, 2025 in Kano at the maiden annual convention of beneficiaries of the Kwankwasiyya scholarship programme, which brought together scholars supported by the movement over nearly 25 years.

Kwankwaso said sustained investment in human capital had delivered long-term results, noting that the scholarship initiative has produced more than 300 PhD holders as well as thousands of professionals across medicine, engineering, science, technology, education.

According to him, leadership should be judged by contributions that endure beyond tenure in office rather than short-term achievements.

He urged beneficiaries to deploy their knowledge in service to national development, while calling on leaders at all levels to place education at the centre of governance.

The former governor disclosed that after official sponsorship for foreign studies ended following the 2019 general elections, he sustained the programme through the Kwankwasiyya Development Foundation to ensure continuity for qualified students.

The convention also featured plans to establish a Kwankwasiyya Scholars Assembly Research Institute aimed at promoting research, innovation, evidence-based policy engagement, alongside calls for stronger collaboration between scholars, government, the private sector.
