The exercise, known as ‘Operation Velvet’, began on Tuesday under the supervision of the state Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, following a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, announced the commencement of the operation in a statement.
According to the command, the initiative is designed as an ongoing enforcement exercise to promote responsible driving, strengthen adherence to traffic regulations and improve the safety of motorists and other road users.

“Any motorist found violating traffic laws or operating a vehicle without the required legal documentation will face appropriate sanctions in accordance with extant laws and due process,” the command said.
The police urged motorists and other road users to cooperate with personnel involved in the exercise and comply with traffic regulations.
Adekimi also appealed to motorists to exercise caution and responsibility while driving, assuring residents that the command remained committed to improving road safety and protecting lives and property.
He further assured the public that the police would continue to uphold peace and maintain public order across Kwara State throughout the enforcement exercise.
