Kwara Govt Locks Down Schools in Four Local Areas

The Kwara State Government has ordered all schools in four local government areas to shut down with immediate effect amid escalating security concerns in parts of the state.

The directive was confirmed on Wednesday by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Kwara State chapter.

A circular issued by the union and obtained by Channels Television revealed that schools in Isin, Irepodun, Ifelodun, and Ekiti LGAs are affected.

According to NUT Chairman, Yusuf Agboola, the decision followed instructions from the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, which assessed the growing threats in Kwara South and deemed the measure necessary to protect students, teachers, and school administrators.

“Comrade chairmen, please inform all schools in the mentioned local governments to close with immediate effect until further notice,” the circular stated. “This action is due to prevailing security challenges and the government’s efforts to manage the situation. Treat this notice with urgency as it comes directly from the ministry.”

Agboola added that school heads and teachers should remain alert for further directives as authorities continue to monitor developments and work toward restoring normalcy.

The sudden shutdown underscores mounting concerns over safety in several communities, prompting the state government to move swiftly in preventing potential attacks or disruptions in the affected areas.
