Kwara Killings Expose Tinubu’s Total Security Failure — ADC

The African Democratic Congress has declared that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is failing to defeat terrorism but merely pushing insurgents from one state to another, following the massacre of over 70 people in Kwara State.

In a scathing statement released on Friday, February 6, by National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party accused the government of presiding over a complete security collapse whilst offering only “condolences and condemnations” after each tragedy.

The statement came after Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq confirmed that 75 people, described as “local Muslims massacred for refusing to surrender to extremists preaching a strange doctrine,” were killed by terrorists in Kaiama Local Government Area.

The ADC suggested the attackers may be terrorist elements dispersed by recent US military action in Sokoto State who are now relocating due to weak internal security coordination.

“The net summary of this, which has now become self-evident from these industrial-scale killings in areas hitherto considered safe, is that the Tinubu administration, whatever it is doing, is not winning the war against terror; it is merely redistributing it,” the party stated.

The ADC questioned the fate of President Tinubu’s November 2025 declaration of a state of emergency on security and the announced police recruitment drive.

“What happened to the President’s much-publicised declaration of a state of emergency on security announced in November 2025?

“Was it a sincere commitment to restoring safety, or merely a rhetorical response to rising international and home-grown public anger?” the statement asked.

The party accused the government of “performative security responses” designed to impress foreign observers rather than protect Nigerians, noting that displays of urgency following US criticism have since faded.

“The painful truth is that Nigeria’s security crisis has clearly moved beyond the competence and capacity of the Tinubu-led Federal Government.

“Across the country, killings have become routine, accountability has disappeared, and government response has been reduced to condolences and condemnations in the aftermath of each tragedy, conveniently forgetting that a government that cannot safeguard the lives of its people has failed in its most fundamental duty,” the statement concluded.
