Kwara Water Breakthrough Shines on World Stage, Earns Top Nod at Korea Summit

Kwara State’s newly inaugurated Integrated Water System has received international recognition at the 2025 World Water Cities Forum (WWCF) in the Republic of Korea, according to a statement released on Monday by the state government.

The statement, signed by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources, Adamu Saidu, noted that the Commissioner for Water Resources, Usman Lade, made the announcement while presenting his report from the global summit.

Lade, who represented the state at the conference, said Kwara’s presentation stood out among participating countries, adding that Korea—renowned for its advanced water technology—provided an ideal platform for sharing innovative solutions in the sector.

He said the state showcased its newly constructed three-way Integrated Water System located at Otte/Budo-Egba in Asa Local Government Area, a project recently commissioned as part of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s broad water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) reforms. The model, he said, drew global attention as a practical and sustainable water-supply solution for rural and water-scarce communities.

“The system we presented at the forum has been recognised as a workable approach for improving water access, especially in underserved communities,” Lade stated. “We also highlighted Kwara’s progress in expanding clean and reliable water supply as part of the administration’s commitment to public health and sustainable development.”

Lade also participated in a fireside chat during the Korea International Water Week, speaking on the theme: “WASH: A Catalyst for Safe, Healthy, and Sustainable Community Development.” He emphasised the centrality of clean water, sanitation, and hygiene to improving the quality of life in the state.

As part of activities marking the event, the Kwara delegation visited the Korea Water Cluster, toured innovation centres, and interacted with engineers and experts working with test beds designed to support emerging water technologies. The team also visited six major water companies in Daegu to explore modern systems that could support future innovations and attract investment to the state.

Lade said the state’s participation in WWCF 2025 underscores the government’s commitment to aligning with global best practices, pointing to ongoing rehabilitation of major waterworks, expansion of water infrastructure, and efforts to improve access to potable water across both urban and rural communities.

He reaffirmed the ministry’s readiness to strengthen partnerships that will deliver clean and accessible water to all communities in Kwara, noting that the forum attracted policymakers, investors, water experts, and global leaders in the WASH sector.
