Labour Party Elects Nenadi Usman As National Chairman

The Labour Party has formally appointed Senator Nenadi Usman as its substantive national chairman following its 2026 national elective convention held in Umuahia, Abia State.

Usman, who previously served in an interim capacity as caretaker national chairman, was confirmed alongside other members of the National Working Committee during the convention held on Tuesday, April 28.

Other key positions filled at the gathering included Iheanacho Obioma as national secretary and Hilda Dokubo as national women leader.

Delegates adopted a consensus arrangement, combined with an affirmative process, in selecting the party’s new leadership structure.

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, who attended the convention, praised the organisers for what he described as a credible and orderly exercise.

He also commended the chairman and secretary of the National Congress and Convention Committee for their roles in ensuring a smooth process.

Otti described Usman as a leader of integrity and urged the new executives to focus on reconciliation and internal unity as a priority task.

He said, “I’m happy that we elected people who understand what is expected of them and parts of Nigeria were represented.

“Reconciliation and integration of all members of the party is another task before you; ensure that nobody is left behind.

“Very soon, the primary election will be conducted. It’s also part of your job to ensure that we have a rancour-free primary before the campaign and election, but I know you are capable of delivering.”

In her acceptance remarks, Usman expressed gratitude to party members for entrusting her with the leadership role and promised to justify the confidence placed in her.

She said, “We shall do everything to make the party grow and make you proud.
