A house owner in the Iju Ishaga area of Lagos has been apprehended for unlawfully transforming his residential property into an illegal abattoir, sparking public health concerns.
The arrest was made at No. 12 Alfred Williams Street, where officials from the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) uncovered the shocking use of the home for the unhygienic slaughtering of animals.
The operation was said to pose serious environmental and health hazards to residents in the area.
Acting on a tip-off from a concerned neighbour, LAGESC operatives stormed the premises and halted the illegal activity.
The agency condemned the act as a blatant violation of the state’s sanitation laws.
