The Lagos State Government has announced a 15-month traffic diversion at the Mile-2 Interchange to allow for the construction of a new intermodal transport terminal that will integrate rail, bus, water, and non-motorised transportation (NMT) systems.
The diversion, which will affect Loop 1 on the Apapa-bound lane and Loop 4 on the Badagry-bound lane, will begin on Monday, November 11, 2024, and last until February 16, 2026, according to the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi.
Travel Advisory and Alternative Routes
To ease traffic disruptions, Osiyemi provided alternative routes:
Apapa to Oshodi: Motorists can travel uninterrupted between Apapa and Oshodi.
Apapa to Badagry: Drivers should use the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, turn onto Akinwande Road, connect to Coker, and proceed to the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
Badagry to Lagos: Direct route between Badagry and Lagos remains open.
Badagry to Apapa: Motorists should divert onto Durban Road, connect to Amuwo Odofin Estate, and rejoin the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway.
The commissioner assured that signs would be posted to guide drivers, with Lagos State Traffic Management Authority officers stationed along the routes for assistance.
Osiyemi appealed for public patience, explaining, “The closure is essential to the traffic management plan for the Transport Interchange Terminal project by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA).”
