The Lagos State Government is strengthening local security with a major boost: “The recruitment of over 1,000 officers into the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps, LNSC.”
This bold step is part of a wider push to upgrade how communities are protected making security more visible, more skilled, and better equipped to handle rising threats at the grassroots level.
At the 2025 ministerial press briefing in Alausa, Ikeja, Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations, Mr. Olugbenga Oyerinde, announced the expansion. He described it as a full overhaul of the LNSC’s structure and capabilities.
“In the past year, we have deepened our reach across communities by recruiting over 1,000 officers. This is more than just a number, it reflects our commitment to ensuring every ward in Lagos feels the presence of security and order,” Oyerinde said.

But it’s not just about numbers. The LNSC has been repositioned with new, targeted units Marine Patrol, Forest Rangers, Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence, Forensics, Crime Scene Management, Paramedics, and Crowd Control. These additions are built to address specific threats that many communities face today.
To match this new capacity, the government has upgraded the corps’ mobility tools too rolling out patrol bicycles, scooters, motorcycles, and vehicles to boost speed and coverage across the state.
This security overhaul aims to make Lagos safer by building a smarter, faster, and more grounded response force in every neighbourhood.
