A 52-year-old man, Morufudeen Idowu, who recently returned from Canada, has been sentenced to three months in prison by a Lagos Magistrate Court for assaulting an officer of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) at Ojota.
The incident occurred when KAI officials were conducting a routine enforcement exercise to prevent illegal road crossings at the busy Ojota expressway.
According to multiple reports, Idowu was apprehended after he resisted lawful instructions and physically attacked one of the operatives who stopped him from crossing the highway unlawfully.
Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the arrest and conviction via his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday.
“Mr. Morufudeen Idowu, who assaulted one of our officers and resisted arrest while attempting to cross the expressway at Ojota, was arraigned before the Magistrate Court in Oshodi and has been sentenced to three months imprisonment,” Wahab stated.

The altercation occurred near the Ojota pedestrian bridge, a location under constant surveillance by the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps due to frequent pedestrian accidents caused by jaywalking.
Authorities emphasized that the enforcement of pedestrian safety laws remains a priority to reduce fatalities and maintain order on Lagos roads.
The Lagos State Government reiterated its zero-tolerance policy for assaults on public officials and encouraged residents to use designated pedestrian bridges.
