The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has refunded over ₦301.56 million to 4,936 pilgrims from Kebbi State who participated in the 2023 Hajj exercise.
Each pilgrim will receive ₦61,080 as compensation for services that were not rendered during the pilgrimage.
This was disclosed by the Chairman of the Kebbi State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Faruku Enabo, during a meeting to discuss the refund process.
He confirmed that the funds had been deposited into the board’s account and would be distributed to beneficiaries.
Enabo noted that the refund process was being carried out in compliance with NAHCON’s directive.
He emphasized transparency and accountability, explaining that he had briefed the state governor, who directed the immediate commencement of the refund process.
“The chairmen of the 21 local government areas will serve as witnesses to ensure the funds reach the intended recipients,” Enabo said.
He further called on the council chairmen to actively monitor the process and ensure no pilgrim is left out.
The chairman also announced that security agencies would oversee the exercise to ensure its smooth execution and prevent any malpractice.
This development underscores NAHCON’s commitment to addressing complaints from pilgrims and ensuring accountability in the management of Hajj services.
