The Lagos State Government has declared Wednesday, August 20, 2025, a public holiday for all state public servants in commemoration of this year’s Isese Day.
The announcement was contained in a circular issued on Monday by the Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, and circulated across ministries, departments, agencies, parastatals, and local councils.
According to the circular, the directive was approved by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu as part of the state’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage and supporting traditional institutions.
“It is hereby notified for general information that this year’s Isese Day Celebration will hold on Wednesday, 20th August, 2025,” the circular read.

The statement further reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to “promoting indigenous culture, tradition, and preserving our heritage, while providing necessary support for traditional institutions in the state.”
Public servants are expected to resume work on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at 8:00 a.m., while all accounting officers have been directed to ensure wide dissemination of the directive within their respective offices.
Isese Day, derived from the Yoruba word for tradition, is observed annually to celebrate Yoruba cultural and spiritual heritage. It has gained increasing recognition in Lagos and other southwestern states in recent years, reflecting growing institutional support for indigenous practices.
