The federal government has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering critical infrastructure across Nigeria, with a focus on fostering collaboration between federal and state governments.
Bello Goronyo, Minister of State for Works, highlighted this agenda during a courtesy visit to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Government House on Tuesday.
The visit aimed to strengthen federal-state cooperation on infrastructure projects, with Goronyo delivering a message from President Bola Tinubu encouraging Lagos to support federal initiatives within the state.
“This government prioritises infrastructure as a key driver of socio-economic development,” Goronyo said.
“We are committed to improving the nation’s road networks and connectivity to enhance transportation and economic activities.”
Goronyo revealed that 11 federal road projects are currently underway in Lagos, with plans for further expansions. He also highlighted recent achievements, including:
Installation of 212 solar streetlights in Isale Eko: This initiative enhances security and supports local businesses.
Rehabilitation of a 300-meter road near Apapa: The project has eased traffic congestion and boosted economic activities in the area.
“These projects underscore our dedication to addressing Nigeria’s infrastructure challenges and ensuring smoother transportation nationwide,” Goronyo stated.
The minister urged Lagos State to maintain its support and cooperation with the federal government, particularly in the implementation of the “Renewed Hope” agenda aimed at national prosperity.
In response, Governor Sanwo-Olu assured the minister of Lagos State’s unwavering support for federal projects, emphasizing the importance of synergy between federal, state, and local governments.
“We will always support the central government and work closely with your ministry,” Sanwo-Olu said.
“Infrastructure is a major driver of progress, and collaboration ensures efficiency and prevents duplication of efforts.”
The minister’s visit to Lagos marks the beginning of a broader outreach to the southwest as part of his mandate to oversee the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA).
This visit reaffirms the federal government’s focus on infrastructure as a cornerstone for achieving socio-economic growth under President Tinubu’s administration.
