Lagos Government Charges Man Over Illegal Waste Dumping

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to prosecute a man, Daniel Olofo, who was arrested on Thursday in the Ifako area for indiscriminate waste dumping.

According to a statement shared on the government’s X page, Olofo was apprehended in the early hours by the LAWMA Waste Surveillance, Investigation & Enforcement team.

He was subsequently taken to the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps headquarters in Oshodi for further investigation and prosecution.

“This serves as a strong reminder that illegal dumping will not be tolerated. Residents are urged to dispose of waste responsibly and patronise only assigned PSP operators,” the statement emphasized.

The state has consistently maintained a zero-tolerance policy toward indiscriminate waste disposal, particularly as the rainy season approaches.

Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, recently warned residents about potential heavy rainfall in 2026, which could also trigger flooding.

In a bid to maintain a cleaner environment, the government has also reinstated the monthly environmental sanitation exercise to ensure proper waste management across Lagos State.
