The Lagos State Government has issued a stern warning to commercial bus operators, particularly drivers of mini buses, known as ‘Korope,’ against illegal parking and unauthorized route deviations across the state.
The Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Transportation, Sola Giwa, delivered the warning in a statement released on Tuesday in Lagos.
The statement, signed by the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Taofiq Adebayo, emphasized the need for strict compliance with traffic regulations.
Giwa stressed that adherence to designated routes and parking areas is crucial to maintaining order on Lagos roads and ensuring smooth vehicular movement.
He directed all ‘Korope’ operators to immediately stop using unauthorized routes, warning that violators would face severe legal consequences.
To reinforce this directive, Giwa stated that LASTMA operatives had been instructed to intensify enforcement actions against reckless driving and other illegal practices disrupting traffic flow in the city.

He further condemned the indiscriminate use of public roads for parking and loading, citing the significant contribution of such actions to traffic congestion and road safety hazards.
“The government will no longer tolerate illegal parking and route violations that cause unnecessary gridlock and endanger lives. Commercial drivers must operate only at designated bus stops and terminals,” Giwa warned.
He also highlighted the security risks posed by unauthorized routes, noting that criminal elements often exploit commercial vehicles for illicit activities.
Authorities have vowed to maintain strict oversight and enforce penalties where necessary to restore order and efficiency in the city’s transport system.
