Lagos Govt Shuts Down Cubana Chief Priest’s Restaurant

The Lagos State Government has sealed DONALD Restaurant, a high-end nightlife spot in Lekki owned by popular nightlife entrepreneur Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, over serious environmental violations.

According to reports, the restaurant was shut down after two of its staff were caught illegally dumping refuse by the roadside — a direct breach of the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, revealed the development in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle.

He noted that the enforcement action was initiated after the Chairman of the Lekki Estate Residents Association (LERA) raised an early morning alarm on Saturday, May 18, 2025, about the illegal discharge of waste along Durosimi-Etti Street, Lekki Phase 1.

“A white Ford van with Abuja registration plates GWA 136E was caught in the act of indiscriminately discharging waste,” Gbadegesin stated. The vehicle, traced back to DONALD Restaurant located on Road 14 in the estate, reportedly belonged to the establishment.

The two suspects were apprehended at the scene by LERA’s Chief Security Officer and taken into custody at the LERA Secretariat.

In a shocking turn, they allegedly attempted to bribe the security team with ₦100,000 — a move firmly rejected by the officials.

LAWMA’s Monitoring and Compliance Team swiftly responded, taking custody of the offenders and sealing the restaurant for “gross environmental violations.”

Gbadegesin confirmed that the suspects will be prosecuted in accordance with the law, stressing that the agency remains committed to its mandate.

LAWMA remains resolute in its commitment to enforcing environmental regulations across Lagos and urges all residents and businesses to adhere strictly to proper waste management practices. A clean and livable city is everyone’s responsibility,” he said.

The incident comes amid heightened enforcement efforts by the Lagos State Government to clamp down on environmental infractions, with a full ban on single-use plastics set to take effect from July 1, 2025.

Cubana Chief Priest, a celebrity nightlife mogul known for his flamboyant lifestyle, is yet to issue a public statement on the incident.
