Lagos Launches Free HIV Testing, ART Survey Ahead of 2025 World AIDS Day

The Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA) has commenced a statewide free HIV testing campaign from 18 November to 1 December 2025, covering all local government areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).

The initiative is part of activities marking World AIDS Day.

LSACA CEO Dr. Folakemi Animashaun said the programme aims to promote early diagnosis, reduce stigma, and link residents to treatment.

“Testing is the gateway to prevention and treatment,” she said, urging Lagosians to take advantage of the safe, confidential, and accessible services.

Counsellors, testing kits, condoms, and educational materials have been deployed across the state.

The campaign builds on earlier HIV outreach.

In January 2025, LSACA conducted three-day free testing and counselling in 19 riverine communities in Amuwo-Odofin and Ojo LGAs, while over 1,300 people were screened at the Y2024 Trade Fair at Tafawa Balewa Square.

In parallel, Lagos is conducting the HIV ART Impact Survey (AIS) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health, NASCP, US CDC, PEPFAR, and other stakeholders.

The survey covers 6,150 households and 11,354 residents aged 15–64, aiming to assess HIV prevalence, ART coverage, and viral load suppression.

Survey findings will guide policy, programme planning, and resource allocation.

With approximately 120,000 people on antiretroviral therapy (ART) in Lagos, LSACA expects the campaign to identify undiagnosed cases, improve treatment coverage, and strengthen the state’s public health response.

The exercise reflects Lagos’s commitment to data-driven, inclusive strategies in the fight against HIV.
