Lagos: One killed as ‘Area Boys’, ‘Okada’ riders clash

Residents of Baruwa-Gate area of Ipaja, Lagos were on Monday thrown into confusion following a bloody clash between commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as Okada riders, and some social urchins widely known as ‘Area Boys’.

One person was reportedly killed in the clash

Confirming the incident in a statement, the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command said the alleged killer and other suspects had been arrested.

The RRS said that intensive patrol by police operatives was ongoing in the area.

The police unit stated: “Our officers responded to the violent fights that broke out in Baruwa/Gate area of Ipaja this morning.

“Calm has been restored to the area. One person was confirmed dead.

“The killer and other suspects have been arrested while intensive patrols of the area is going on.”

The RRS, as such, urged residents to go about their lawful duties, especially in the axis “as their safety and security is being made top priority”.
