The Lagos State Police Command has successfully apprehended Friday Onu, the man seen in a viral video assaulting Mrs. Yetunde Amole in an attempt to steal her car battery on the Lekki-Epe Expressway. The arrest was made following a swift intervention by law enforcement officers, who responded to the assault near the Oriental Hotel area of the state on Monday, April 7, 2025.
In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police confirmed that Onu, the suspect identified from the viral footage, had attempted to steal the car battery of Amole. When the victim bravely resisted, Onu reportedly escalated the situation by physically assaulting her. Despite the disturbing nature of the incident, Amole’s courageous actions led to the suspect’s prompt arrest by officers from the Maroko Division.
However, Hundeyin stated that shortly after his arrest, Onu began to show signs of illness. As a result, he was transferred to Falomo Police Station for medical attention. Currently, he is receiving treatment at the station’s medical facility under close supervision. The police spokesperson further assured the public that Onu would face legal proceedings once he is declared fit to stand trial by medical professionals.

“The Lagos State Police Command condemns this act of violence in the strongest terms,” Hundeyin said in the statement. “We wish to reassure the public that justice will be served, and the suspect will be charged in a court of competent jurisdiction as soon as he is well enough to appear.”
The police also praised Mrs. Amole for her bravery in resisting the car theft and assured her that her case, like all others involving criminal activity, would be thoroughly pursued. The Command reiterated its ongoing commitment to the safety of residents and encouraged the public to continue supporting law enforcement in the fight against crime.
The incident, which has drawn significant attention due to its disturbing nature, highlights ongoing security concerns in the area, but also underscores the importance of community cooperation in tackling criminal activity.
