The Lagos State Government has intensified its crackdown on suspected hoodlums accused of harassing and extorting motorists along the Lekki-Ajah Expressway.
Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) conducted a midnight enforcement operation along the corridor, targeting individuals allegedly stopping motorists to demand money and damaging vehicles when their demands were rejected.
The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this on Sunday, August 9, 2026, in a post on X.
He said the operation was part of sustained intelligence-led enforcement against activities threatening public safety and the free movement of people and vehicles across Lagos.

The latest action follows months of complaints and previous interventions over alleged extortion along the wider Lekki-Epe corridor.
In March 2026, the Lagos State Taskforce announced the arrest of five suspected street urchins, popularly known as “Omotaku”, over alleged motorist extortion. A June 28 report also documented complaints of harassment, attacks and demands for money at several points along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
Wahab had separately criticized the financial patronage of street urchins by some influencers, celebrities and other members of the public, warning that such support could encourage their return to the streets after enforcement operations.
His comments followed a documentary shared on X showing suspected street urchins allegedly demanding money from celebrities.
He urged residents to shun actions that could promote street begging, lawlessness, insecurity and environmental nuisance, stressing that public cooperation was vital to restoring safer and more orderly roads across Lagos.
