Lagos to Close Independence/Mekwen Bridge for Repairs

The Lagos State Government has announced the temporary closure and traffic diversion around the Independence/Mekwen Bridge (inbound Marina/CMS) for urgent repairs.

According to the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the repair work will commence on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, and is expected to last until Monday, May 26, 2025.

During this period, the section of the road stretching from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) through Bonny Camp Bridge to Independence Bridge will be closed to vehicular movement.

Additionally, the Bonny Camp Underpass Bridge service lane inbound Independence Bridge will be inaccessible. However, the service lane from Ahmadu Bello Way to Ozumba Mbadiwe will remain open.

To ease traffic congestion, the Lagos State Government has provided alternative routes for road users:

For motorists heading to Victoria Island from Ahmadu Bello Way: Use Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue inbound Akin Adesola Street, then proceed to Falomo Roundabout and connect to Obafemi Awolowo Road towards Ring Road.

For motorists traveling from Inner Marina/CMS to Ahmadu Bello Way: Through-traffic access will be maintained.
To mitigate disruptions, officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be deployed to strategic locations to direct traffic and ensure smooth movement along the designated alternative routes.
