The Lagos State Government has issued a relocation alert to residents living in flood-prone zones of the state, particularly those in Lekki, Ikorodu, and Ajegunle.
Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, made this known during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, the 5th of August, 2025.
He directed attention to specific communities in these areas, stressing that they were at high risk and should leave for safer ground immediately.
“Those around the Ajilete axis of Lagos, that’s Ajegunle, they have to move. Those around the coastline of Ikorodu; Majidu, have to move. Some areas around the Lekki corridor, too, not all,” Wahab said.
He assured that places like Epe, Mushin, and Ikeja were still safe, though people living in Isheri, within the OPIC axis, were advised to stay alert and follow updates.

Wahab explained that Lagos’ coastal nature makes it particularly vulnerable to climate-related threats. He referenced data from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), which predicted more intense rainfall in 2025 than what the state experienced in past years.
“For those who stay in the lowland of Lagos, they have to move to the upland pending when the rain recedes,” he said.
The alert follows hours of continuous rainfall from Sunday night into Monday, which caused massive flooding across multiple parts of Lagos. Footage shared online captured flooded homes, stranded vehicles, and major roads rendered unusable, forcing several businesses and residents to pause normal activities.
While acknowledging the difficulties, Wahab urged Lagosians to stay calm. He reassured the public that the government had intensified efforts to clear blocked drainage paths and widen flood channels to reduce the impact.
